The Marcy Houses Memorial Scholarship Fund (MHMSF) provides up to $1,000 to one or more students each year. Students must use the scholarship funds towards their educational expenses while attending an accredited college, university or licensed trade/vocational school. The Fund is intended to provide Marcy Houses’ students with financial support so that they may pursue their educational passions. A MHMSF Scholarship consists of financial support and mentorship for the duration of the student’s college or trade school tenure.

+ Eligibility?

The Marcy Houses Memorial Scholarship Fund accepts applications from students who currently reside in Brooklyn’s Marcy Houses, a property of the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA). Applicants must be accepted into an accredited college, university or licensed trade/vocational school at the time they submit a Marcy Houses Memorial Scholarship Fund application. 

The Marcy Houses Memorial Scholarship Fund encourages applications from students representing the widest possible range of perspectives and lived experiences. There is no age limit for applicants.

+ Proof of Residency?

Proof of residency can include government-issued identification showing current address.

+ Application Period?

The MHMSF Application is now open. The deadline to submit a completed application is May 31, 2024.

+ Application Process?

To apply, applicants are encouraged to complete the online application form located on the APPLY page. Applicants may also send all application materials to info@marcyscholarship.org.

Applicants are not required to mail in hard copies of the application forms. If you do not have access to a computer, please contact us for guidance on applying.

+ Personal Essay?

All applicants are required to submit a personal essay as part of their application. In no more than 500 words please tell us about (1) challenges and successes you've faced, (2) about your personal and professional goals and (3) how you plan to use the scholarship if it is awarded to you.

+ Letter of Recommendation?

Applicants are required to have one letter of recommendation on file completed by someone who is familiar with them and their work. Applications that do not have a completed letter of recommendation on file will be considered incomplete and will not be reviewed. References that are submitted separately from an applicants completed application are confidential.

Applicants: The reference process is initiated by you, the applicant. You must contact a recommender to receive a letter of recommendation. The letter of recommendation should be written on the letterhead of the recommender's organization. Your recommender may send your letter of recommendation directly to The Marcy Houses Memorial Scholarship Fund, Inc. at info@marcyscholarship.org or you may email the letter of recommendation yourself. It is your responsibility to ensure the request is fulfilled. The deadline for all references is the same day as the application deadline: May 31, 2024. References that are submitted separately from an applicants completed application are confidential.

Recommenders: As a recommender, you may submit a letter of recommendation directly to The Marcy Houses Memorial Scholarship Fund at info@marcyscholarship.org. In the subject, please name the student and type, “Letter of Recommendation.” The letter should be written on the letterhead of your organization. The deadline for all references is May 31, 2024. References that are submitted separately from an applicants completed application are confidential.

+ Transcript?

Applicants must submit an official transcript and evidence of acceptance to a college/university or trade/vocational school or proof of enrollment in good standing from your school or training program. Please email the transcript to info@marcyscholarship.org by May 31, 2024.

+ College or Trade School Acceptance Letter?

Applicants must submit an official transcript and evidence of acceptance to a college/university or trade/vocational school. Please email the acceptance letter to info@marcyscholarship.org by May 31, 2024.

+ Interview?

Applicants may be required to participate in an in-person or digital interview. If chosen for an interview, you will receive communication from a MHMSF representative.

+ Notification?

Applicants will be notified of selection status no later than July 30, 2024.
